Why I Became a Notary

The professional answer is that I decided to get commissioned and start my own business.
The unprofessional answer? TO BE PETTY!
The professional answer is straightforward enough, so let me explain the unprofessional one. I interact with people daily at my current job, and they often need documents notarized. My supervisor and another notary in the building typically handle these requests. Thinking I could be more helpful to the building, I asked my supervisor how to become a notary. However, my supervisor made it seem like becoming a notary was a hassle and didn't provide me with the necessary information.
So, what does anyone do when faced with an unsatisfactory answer? They turn to Google!
I searched "How to become a notary public in Massachusetts" and quickly found the information I needed. A couple of months after my conversation with my supervisor, I was able to get commissioned by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I joined the National Notary Association a few months later and took a course to enhance my notarial skills.
To this day, I have not shared any of this with my supervisor. Not only did he make it seem impossible for me to become a notary, but he also implied that I would need his assistance to achieve it.
As I learned more about the notary industry and discovered how helpful, informative, and supportive the community is, I was inspired to start my own business. I had a wonderful mentor with whom I worked for about six months to establish the foundational aspects of my business. She always ensures that I have everything I need to make my business successful, and I couldn't be more grateful.
It has been about a year and a half since I started my business. In addition to offering notary services, I have added "lifestyle concierge" to my offerings. These two services complement each other well. I am excited about the future of my business and can't wait to see it grow and flourish!
